
Artist Bio
Kim Thompson is a Nottingham-based artist of Black Caribbean heritage, working often in painting and digital illustration. Her work draws inspiration from her Jamaican and British identities, exploring intergenerational connections and the significance of Black Britons to British society, culture and beyond. Through a fusion of oral histories, community engagement, and portraiture, Thompson aims to amplify the voices of marginalised communities, presenting a more authentic and multifaceted portrayal of their lived experiences, with a focus on celebration and joy.
Exhibition History
Thompson's work has previously been exhibited at New Art Exchange, Nottingham as part of the NAE Open (2022), Backlit Gallery (Nottingham, 2021), The World Reimagined Project (London, 2022) and the Saatchi Gallery (London, 2023), where she received the Robert Walters x UKNA New Artist of the Year runner up prize.
